Canterbury Triumph Drive It Day 2012

We decided to try this timelapse. An SLR camera attached to the windscreen taking one shot every second. I started at Tescos in Folkestone meeting more members at Ashford then on to Maidstone services. Here we met up with the TSSC WEst Kent members. We then drove through the Kent countryside to Dover Transport Museum.

Stag Owners Club Meeting at Brands Hatch including 2 laps around the Grand Prix Track
I’m 14 but I’d kill to have a Stag. Dream car
Hi What make of exhaust do you have on your Stag as it sounds good Ian
Tunnel were not designed for us to get through and around land marks...there were makes for amplifying car sounds
That is an awesome sound! Wish I could drive it! I've heard you can keep the original engine in these from their famous overheating tendency with an aftermarket radiator and frequent flush and fills. Is this true?
Yes Kenny. I'm using mine daily, and over the 8000 miles since I got it in July I've had no problems so far
is this shot through the wind shield??
Hi Brian No I have a Camera clamp that attaches to the T Bar so the camera is above the windscreen. The wind noise would be horrendous so I attached a Tieclip mic to the rear bumper above the exhausts. To shot at top of the tunnel showed i should have cleaned the lens though :)
Sorry about that video editing skills not up to dubbing the sound back on maybe next time.
Unfortunately we don't hear the lovely sounding engine SO time lapse is not for me. Regards Harry
Lovely sound file and nice shooting. Thank you for uploading. For all you Stag fans out there please also see my Solitude run in 2011. Regards Harry
Samphire Hoe is where the spoil from the Channel Tunnel was dumped making the UK slightly larger. Just outside Dover Kent
*Genius. Oh the irony.
Looks like leaving Dover on the A2, am I right?
Good footage, lovely car.
Ah! What a wonderful video! It's my dream to own and maintain a Stag. One day I'll join you all on a SOC run. In the meantime, thanks so much for posting this.
We all thank you for not playing Disco music over the engine sound!
@kiekeskiller I used a G clamp type of Tripod fitted to the T Bar. Pressed Record and left the camera to get on with it.
ginius about the microphone , but hou do you get the camera so stabilazed ?
@Dav123xyz Yes as long as its maintained the engine is good
Engine no prob these days. "Burble"? ....I'd say thats a roar.
Hi Depends a bit on restrictive mileage etc. I paid £140.00 this year includes UK & European breakdown, up to 5000 miles per annum. with car club valuation of £13K Phil
Philip, can you take us a run in this perfect pice of machinery one day? The sound amazing
lovely sound, I always wanted a stag but got put off by THAT engine
Yep Original engine. its the position of the microphone that makes the difference
Is this on the original V8?
No the exhaust is standard. Its the positioning the microphone on the rear bumper that makes it sound so good :)
is it a standerd sound or did you do something about the exhaust? if so.. i know what to expect when we drive are own triumph...
Sounds great. Where is the tunnel? It looks like something from James Bond.
No Sir they were green :) Must do it again soon
If all cars sounded that good, the world would be a better place :)
Its near Dover It was an access tunnel for the construction of the channel tunnel.
Yes the Burble is good. Its the original engine but the camcorder was clamped to the t bar with a tie clip microphone attached to the bumber above the exhausts
Truly Awesome
Philip, This car sounds amazing. The original V8's in the stag make the nicest sound ever!!
Hi Just tried this and yes the sound is fine. so it must be a setting your end
No worries each to their own :)
Cool.. The Stag was always a beautiful car, and if it had been built properly it would definitely have been a world wide legend like the MGBV8 had been. In my mind, before BMW truly arrived, Triumph was the one you had - In fact, I'm pretty sure that BMW looked at the 2500/2000 for their engine designs - they sound remarkably very similar. I take it the Stag engine is of 'cross-plane' crankshaft design?
The location is Samphire Hoe Dover Kent it is where all the waste from the channel tunnel works was dumped. It made England just a bit bigger :) We are planning to repeat the video with a few more Stags very soon
Wow.. where was that location??
Hi Thanks for that cheered me up too. PMed SOC Forum Phil
My stag has been off the road for a couple of months ,so i just needed a burble fix.Feeling much better now thanksPhil.
A few of you have asked a bit more about the car. its 1975 Triumph 3litre V8 with manual overdrive box. Although I have only owned the car since June it has had regular use and indeed the milage is approaching 200,000 miles. Plans are afoot for a rerun in the spring with as many Stags as I can get to join in.
All original unmolested Triumph V8 :) look out for the sequal in the spring
That is very nice,,,V8RY V8RY nice....Must take our Stag down to Samfire hoe sometime....Tell me is the the Rover V8 or the Triumph V8.....when god made V8s he new what he was doing.
I’d love to have a Stag. My dad has a P5B
Hi You are on the right lines. Camera clamped to T bar Tie clip mic on the rear bumper just above the exhaust. First video with mono mic second attempt with stereo mic. the faster the car went the worse the sound got so I think the sound would have been better with mic under the bumper or even inside the over rider. The car sounds so different to how it sounds from the drivers seat. regards Phil I think I just replyed in the wrong place

Nice, very nice. How did you get this done with so little wind noise? Camera on T-bar and mike on back end somewhere (rear seat)?? The prominent sound of the rear shocks can be heard when going over the speed hump - makes me think the mike is in the back.
